Development Solutions (DS) is committed to preserving heritage sites while unlocking their economic potential for local communities.
In partnership with the Butterfly Sanctuary and with funding support from the Heritage Organisation, DS contributed to a transformative project at the Kome Caves, focusing on the installation of a solar lighting system to improve safety, accessibility, and visitor experience.
For the first time, the caves were equipped with sustainable lighting. This innovation significantly enhanced the tourism experience, enabling extended visits and even overnight stays. As a result, the site attracted more visitors and created new opportunities for local communities to generate income through tourism-related services such as guiding, cultural performances, hospitality, and community-based activities.
Role of Development Solutions
• Designing and developing training content
• Facilitating capacity-building workshops for local stakeholders
• Leading community dialogues on heritage conservation and sustainable tourism

Through structured training and community engagement, DS ensured that the project was not only about infrastructure improvement, but also about empowering communities with knowledge, skills, and collective responsibility for heritage conservation.
